Research Fellowship

In collaboration with

Supporting research on Ithaca’s archaeology and history

The Ithacan Historical Society, in partnership with the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens (AAIA), is delighted to launch a new Fellowship supporting the study of Ithaca’s long and rich history — from antiquity to the modern era.

Subject to funding, the Ithacan Historical Society Research Fellowship will provide up to AUD $6,000 each year to fund original research projects.

    • The proposed research project must be wholly or partially relevant to the archaeology or history of Ithaca of any period

    • Priority is given to projects publishing new source material (artefacts, documents, etc.)

    • Open to postgraduate, early-career, and established scholars

    • Fellows are expected to submit an academic journal article based upon their Fellowship research within twelve months of completing their Fellowship

    • Fellows are expected to give a public lecture based upon their Fellowship research to the IHS together with a local AAIA Friends Group

    • Fellows will contribute to both the Bulletin of the Ithacan Historical Society and the AAIA Bulletin

    • For more details see aaia.gr/scholarships-fellowships/

Applications open soon for research to be undertaken in 2026.
