Mission

The Ithacan Historical Society’s mission is to promote the study and appreciation of the history of Ithaca and its people, from antiquity to the present.

Our scope

The scope of the IHS’ mission is broad and open, encompassing the long history of the island of Ithaca from antiquity to the recent past, and the experiences of Ithacans far beyond the island, as merchants on the Danube to migrants in Australia.

Our past

As a society founded in Melbourne, the IHS encourages and fosters the study of Australian and Victorian history from the perspective of migrants from Ithaca, taking into consideration the long connection of Ithacans with the sea, migration and merchant trade.
