Join us for a Masterclass & Special Screening with Ithacan film director Jason Raftopoulos, Director of Voices in Deep (2023)
Jason Raftopoulos is an Australian filmmaker with Ithacan roots. Jason will join us for a discussion with Melbourne-based artist Lucy Kostos to speak to us about his experience as an award-winning director. The discussion will be followed by a screening of Voices in Deep (2023) — Jason’s latest film, which sheds light on the emotional and physical toll of the refugee crisis.

Jason Raftopoulos
Jason Raftopoulos is an award-winning film director, screenwriter and producer based in Australia and with Ithacan roots.
Jason has won several awards for his films. His film From Dope to Dalai Lama won Best Short Documentary at the Inside Film Awards in 2010. In 2018 Jason won the Jury Grand Prix Award for Best Film for West of Sunshine at the Festival des Antipodes in Saint Tropez, and Best Director at the Barcelona International Film Festival. He was also nominated for Best Director by the Australian Directors Guild and nominated for Best Independent Film by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts in 2018. In 2023 Jason wrote and directed Voices In Deep, a Greek Australian co-production that premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival. Voices in Deep had its European premiere at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and screened In Competition at SXSW Sydney.
Lucy Kostos
Lucy Helen Kostos (b.1993) is a practising artist with Ithacan heritage based in Melbourne (Naarm) specialising in analogue film and glass.
Lucy was formerly involved in AFW, established in 2012 – Artist Film Workshop – a Naarm based collective that teaches, screens, and celebrates the art of analogue cinema.
Over the last decade, Lucy has locally screened her work, to name a few – ACCA (Naarm) and Carriageworks (Eora), and curated showcases via the NFSA.
